Minerals4EU 2nd Progress Meeting in Dublin, Ireland, 30.9. - 2.10.2014
The 2nd Progress Meeting of the Minerals4EU will be held on 30.9.-2.10.2014 in Dublin, hosted by GSI. General information on the meeting will be updated in this website (please check updates from time to time).
All participants (Consortium members and invited guests) are kindly requested to register via GTK´s online registration, either through personal link already sent by e-mail or from the link below (which can also be used by the participants who have not been in the e-mail list for any reason).
Arrival of participants will take place on Monday 29 September. Parallel WP Internal Planning meetings will take place on Tuesday 30 September, and Wednesday 1 October will be dedicated to Plenary meeting concentrating on the general progress in Minerals4EU. Furthermore a General Assembly meeting will be held on Wednesday. On Thursday 2 October there will be a field excursion.
Please note that during the registration, 30 September 8:30 - 9:00, the participants are kindly asked to pay a delegate fee of €60 covering lunches and refreshments during breaks on 30 September and 1 October. In addition, the self cost dinner on 30 September (€35, drinks not included) and the field excursion on 2 October (€30 including lunch) should be paid during registration by those who have signed up for them online. The payments can be made by credit card (Visa and Mastercard only) or cash. Receipts of the payments will be issued.
Field Trip Outline (subject to alteration)
The field trip will visit former mine sites in Lower Palaeozoic rocks to the south of Dublin in Co. Wicklow. The group will visit the closed mine site at Avoca (VMS) and the ancient vein mineralization at Glendalough/Glendasan.
1. Introduction to the geology of SE Ireland and Avoca in particular (short presentation).
2. Visit to GSI core store to review Avoca drill core.
3. Visit to Avoca mine site.
5. Visit Glendalough/Glendasan.
6. Return to Dublin.
Both mining and remediation aspects will be reviewed. The trip will be led by Dr. Bill Sheppard (an experienced economic geologist who has many years’ experience at Avoca) with input from Dr. Eibhlin Doyle and Gerry Stanley.
We expect to be back in Dublin somewhere between 5 and 6 in the evening.
It is up to each individual delegate to book accommodation. Instructions for getting a reduced price have already been sent to the participants in the invitation e-mail from GTK.
The closest accommodation for the meeting is in the Grand Canal Hotel. The room rate is set at €89 per night for 20 rooms, single occupancy, with a further 20 rooms at €100.
A further 40 rooms are held in reserve at Bewley’s Ballsbridge Hotel. These rooms are €89 per night, single occupancy. Rooms must be booked via the hotel website earlier than 6 weeks before the event, by using a promo code.
